Nexus is an Unreal Tournament multiplayer map visually inspired by the Deep Stone Crypt Raid from Destiny 2. I designed the level around every weapon and the Deathmatch free-for-all game mode. This was a challenging assignment since it is my first multiplayer map and I had to fine tune sightlines, gameplay hotspots, cover, powerup and weapon placement, spawn points, etc. But above all, I wanted the level to be fun to play. Unreal Tournament has a very dynamic and chaotic approach to arena shooters and I wanted to capture that high-octane feeling in moment to moment gameplay. The result is a fast paced, and intimate level that incentivizes the player to constantly move and take new engagement routes in order to survive. I wanted to reward the use of advanced movement, such as sliding, wall running, well timed jumps, etc. All of which was done to find a gameplay flow that rewards high risk plays from experienced FPS players but still allow for less experienced players to have fun and take safer routes.
All of that said, It could take another pass to further balance spawns, weapon placement, and pain-points.
